WHO IS SUSAN G. KOMEN???

Susan G. Komen for the Cure
2008 marks a strong new year for survivors and activists to continue banding together against breast cancer. At the head of this magnificent fight is Susan G. Komen for the Cure® with their resounding promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Determined to fortify awareness, Komen has organized the Komen Race for the Cure® Series, now the world’s largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. Currently, these races bring together over one million believers each year to battle breast cancer by walking or running the 5k marathon. Melissa Etheridge's I Run for Life
Grammy® Award-winner Melissa Etheridge's song, I Run for Life, is more than anthem in the fight against breast cancer, it also shows her support for breast cancer charities and her commitment to the cause.
Record royalties from I Run for Life will benefit two charities dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. The single is available exclusively through the iTunes Music Store for .99 cents. 20% of the download price will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and 80% will benefit the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. Learn more >>

With funds raised by the Komen Race for the Cure® Series, Komen along with its Affiliate Network is able to fund breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards and educational, scientific and community outreach programs around the world. Since its origination in Dallas, Texas, in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure® Series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a series of more than 115 races with 1.5 million people expected to participate in 2008.
