Archie Cochrane Ford Service Department would like you to know that there is a bulletin from Ford that explains why some of you can't start your vehicle after 50 days of letting it sit without ever starting it. ---some of you snowbirds that go down south for the winter----

FROM FORD:
Mulitple vehicle lines-no crank/no start, no powertrain control module (PCM) communication, passive anti theft system (pats) indicator flashing in some 2010 Focus, Transit Connect, Fusion, Hybrid and Escape vehciles that have not been started in over 50 days may exhibit a no crank/no start condition, lack of powertrain control module (pcm) communication, and passive anti theft system (pats) indicator flashing (except hybrid). This may be cue to the PCM ignition Key-Off timer exceeding the 50 day internal limit. to start vehicle, remove keep alive memory (kapwr) FUSE FROM THE BATTERY JUNCTION BOX (bjb) for 30 seconds, then reinstall. The warranty and policy manual states to start and run vehicles every 15 days during new vehicle storage. This will prevent the "no start" condition, therefore no warranty claims should be submitted for this specific issue.
Effective Date: 10-19-2009

Ford announced today a new technology called MyKey that will be standard on the 2010 Focus Coupe and quickly spread to the rest of the Blue Oval's lineup. MyKey can do three basic things: allow parents to limit a vehicle's top speed to 80 mph and/or the stereo's volume up to 44% of its max, and set a sustaining chime if the seatbelts aren't being used. Clearly targeted towards worry wart parents, the MyKey system is meant to keep teens safe despite their protestation that a system like this curtails their kiddy freedoms. Ford did some polling and found that 67% of teens didn't like the idea, though that number fell to 36% if the MyKey system led to parents letting the kids use the car more. The MyKey system uses off-the-shelf technology from within Ford, particularly the SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, to identify which keys are in the ignition and therefore which driving mode to enable. It's certainly feels a lot like Big Brother, but we suppose parents have the right to play Big Bro' when the safety of their children is at stake. Other things the MyKey system can do is permanently enable the traction control system and set chimes for when the car reaches 45, 55 or 65 mph. This technology will likely make the Ford Focus Coupe a popular choice for both parents and teens, the latter of which may be appeased by the SNYC system that's also available in these cars.

April 9, 2009 Evidence is mounting that the few customers who are shopping for new cars and trucks in this tough market are increasingly turning to Ford Motor Co. because it hasn't asked for federal aid and is perceived as healthiest of the Detroit Three.
Craig Lahti, 32, of Wixom grew up in a "GM family" but purchased a Ford Focus last month. "It was largely due to the fact that they've managed their business affairs better, in my opinion," Lahti said. "Not only ... did they not take the loans, but just seems that they are heading down the right road."
General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC have accepted $17.4 billion in federal loans and are now struggling to meet the terms mandated by the federal government in order to receive additional funding. Ford, in contrast, decided in December not to ask for federal loans, even though it reported a record $14.6-billion loss for 2008.
Since then, Ford executives and dealers have been pushing the message that "Ford is different," which seems to be resonating with customers.
Art Spinella, president of CNW Marketing Research in Bandon, Ore., said his research shows that the percentage of people who list Ford as a top brand to shop increased 12 points during the first quarter of this year compared with last year.
"It indicates that Ford really dodged a bullet," Spinella said. Spinella said Ford is mostly attracting buyers who previously preferred to buy GM and Chrysler vehicles, but are worried about the possibility of those companies filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Last Friday, Tustin, Calif.-based AutoPacific said only 3% of Americans participating in a recent online survey were unaware that GM and Chrysler had received billions of dollars in federal loans. It also said 72% of respondents were more likely to buy a Ford vehicle.
Jesse Toprak, executive director of industry analysis for the automotive Web site Edmunds.com, said the number of visitors who shopped for Ford vehicles during the first three months of the year increased 12% compared with the same year-ago period. Meanwhile, the number shopping for GM and Chrysler vehicles declined 19% and 15%, respectively, during the same period.

The F-150 SVT Raptor doesn�t disappoint, with 13.4 inches of usable travel in the rear suspension and 11.2 in the front.''With the F-150 SVT Raptor, we changed the axle, the whole front suspension is different � new upper A arm, new lower A arm, new tie rod, new half-shaft joints,'' said Jamal Hameedi, Ford SVT chief engineer. ''It�s well beyond what SVT has ever done with one of our vehicles.''Raptor�s wider track and softer suspension mean it will comparatively glide over obstacles. And when it has to be ''launched,'' be prepared for a soft landing. ''The suspension does all the work to keep the truck�s attitude stable,'' Hameedi said.In addition to a beefed up suspension, the F-150 SVT Raptor also boasts unique internal bypass Fox Racing Shox, the only internal bypass shocks on a street truck. The position sensitive dampening internal bypass feature allows the shock to become significantly stiffer as it travels, preventing the truck from bottoming out.By working with Fox internal bypass technology and applying the Ford engineering methodology, there haven�t been trade-offs to assure extreme off-road handling over on-road ride comfort.''This truck is also going to be a daily driver. We brought together a lot of experts to ensure the on-road steering precision and comfort was there, too,'' said Hameedi. ''That�s where Ford expertise really came to the table and complemented Fox�s off-road expertise.''A tough truck needs tough tires, and a BF Goodrich All-Terrain TA/KO 315/70-17 tire does the job. To help improve the tire in a variety of conditions, the compound of the tread was altered. Engineers made the rubber softer for better performance on and off-road and for precise and predictable steering in a variety of conditions while the interior of the tire was modified to improve lateral firmness.The tall sidewall on the 35-inch tire can handle rocks and irregular surfaces commonly experienced in an off-road environment. A 17-inch cast aluminum wheel is designed to absorb the impact of objects the truck could encounter in some of the most extreme environments.The F-150 SVT Raptor provides the complete package for off-roaders, including state-of-the-art technologies to keep it at the top of capability.''For many years, enthusiasts have been struggling with the performance of electronic technologies in the extreme off-road environment since that was not the environment they were designed for,'' Hameedi said. ''What SVT has done is tailor technology to function in both an on-road and an extreme off-road environment.''

It's getting harder and harder to ignore the fact that Ford has really come around with their vehicles. Ford now has a combination of 16 cars and Trucks that make the top list of not only reliable cars and trucks. Folks, you may have heard a few days ago, that the Ford Fusion just received another award for being one of the safest cars on the road! Why Buy or Lease the 2009 Escape? (for all of you researchers)

The biggest changes are bestowed on the Escape's four-cylinder engine, with displacement growing from 2.3 to 2.5 liters. The revised engine puts out 171 hp (up from 153). The I-4 model now makes the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 1.7 fewer seconds, which is comparable to the outgoing V-6 Escape. The I-4 will now be available on all Escape trim levels, adding a Limited model for those seeking a more luxurious trucklet that's still easy on gas.
The 3.0-liter V-6 was not forgotten in the upgrades. While its displacement stays the same, horsepower increases by a noticeable 40 hp for a total of 240. The newfound power comes courtesy of a higher compression ratio (10.3:1), as well as new cylinder heads, cams, injectors, pistons, and intake and exhaust manifolds.
Part of the fuel economy boost is due to a new six-speed automatic transmission, offered on both the four- and six-cylinder models (a five-speed manual is still standard on four-cylinder Escapes). With two more forward ratios than the outgoing automatic, Ford expects an increase of 1 mpg on all six-speed models, despite the increased power of both engines. A taller top gear is aimed at highway cruising and contributes to the better fuel economy, while more gear choice means less hunting on hills and when passing power is needed. We had the opportunity to drive '08 and '09 models back-to-back and can confirm that the extra ratios and horsepower are a big help to what used to be a sluggish little truck.
There are also some subtle changes that help the Escape go longer between fill-ups. The air dam below the front bumper has been extended downward, and rear tire spoilers have been added. Low-rolling-resistance tires contribute to lower fuel usage, as well as a quieter ride, though the noise reduction was difficult to detect on our rain-soaked drive.
Speaking of fuel economy, hybrid Escape models will also see some changes for 2009. The gasoline portion of the hybrid powertrain gets the new 2.5-liter engine using the Atkinson combustion cycle. Revised programming helps make the transition from engine to electric motor less perceptible to drivers. A new brake pedal sensor improves feel and minimizes the sensation when going from regenerative to conventional brakes. Ford has also added a Limited trim level to hybrid Escapes.
All Escape models receive some chassis tweaks for 2009. A rear stabilizer bar reduces body roll, and ride benefits from retuned dampers. The electric power steering system, added for 2008, has been recalibrated to provide better on-center feel and reduced low-speed effort.
Though the Escape's interior was overhauled in 2008, Ford snuck in a few more changes for '09. Soft material replaces hard plastic door inserts, and the newly recontoured seats use soy-based foam, like those already found in the Mustang. But the most interesting addition is Sirius Travel Link, which comes packaged with the optional navigation system. The service offers traffic, national weather (current conditions, five-day forecast, radar, ski reports), fuel prices (sorted by distance or price, with the option of adding them as a waypoint on a trip), sports scores, and movie listings. In addition to touchscreen control, these features can be accessed while driving with voice prompts like those used on Ford's SYNC system, which is also offered on the Escape.

Archie Cochrane Ford's Cruise4URSchool program was a lot of fun on Sept. 19th and 20th. There were several people that showed up for the event and drove some great new Ford Products. The money that these folks earned their school will be donated by Ford Motor Company and Archie Coochrane Ford. Also, there were a few sales that also earned the schools an additional $100 each donated by the dealership for supporting the program. As most of us know, the school systems send out cookies, popcorn, pizza and a host of other products for kids to sell. We don't know how much money really goes to these schools, but we know how frustrating it is to continually have to buy things from the kids. Of course, you don't want to turn them down! Pretty soon the pantry is full of all kinds of foods that you've purchased to help the kids.
Our program was focused on a $20 bill. Ford Motor Company merely wanted to get the word out on all of the new products and vehicles that the company has to offer. Ford also realizes that your time is valuable so they decided to donate $20 for the test drive and your time. (1 per household).
It was fun to see the reactions of people that haven't driven a Ford Product yet. For example, one individual was so impressed with the new Microsoft Syc system in the Ford Flex that they actually ended up buying one. The Flex offered everything that they were looking for in a vehicle, Plus, the fuel economy was excellent.

Archie Cochrane will continue to offer it's own program... $100 for the purchase of a new or used vehicle to the school of your choice. Salesmen of the Month in May

I've skipped a couple of these in the last few months and a few of you were letting me know that you wanted me to continue posting our best performers. Well, your wish is my command.... Here they are!
Recognize them? Terry Johns, Tom O'tremba and Joel Bechtold are May's top salesman.

So what's it take to become the top guy at a dealership? Since we have roughly 20 guys here, it takes a lot of dedication to become one of the top 3 guys.
One thing I know about all three of these guys is that the are concerned about their customers. I know that each of them works their cell phones as much as the phone in their offices. I've heard on more than one occasion that their customers call them personally. For someone to give their customers their personal phone line just goes to show how serious they take their jobs. It's the extra effort that these guys throw forth that really matters to all of their customers.
This job is really no different than one where they are on call. They get calls at home during dinner hours and all other hours of the day. They take care of their customers and their wives know that it's just part of what needs to happen for them to be successful in their occupation. Being the top guy doesn't mean that they make the most money either. Being top guy means that they do sell the most cars but it also means that they have taken their business to another level. Most salespeople you meet are usually trying to tag along on your bumper when you pull in. Sure, they all get out on the car lot and look for customers but these three spend a lot of time in their office visiting with customers and making phone calls. If you are looking for a salesman that stays at the same dealership then look no further. All three of these guys have been with Archie Cochrane Ford for years!
